About Us
Who We Are
Person Hemingway is an independent firm of business consultants, with a specialty in accountancy and finance. The company is run by Carl Derving, who has been in the finance profession over 20 years, starting out as a trainee accountant in private practice before moving into industry, were he has spent most of his career, working through the ranks from purchase ledger clerk to CFO.
Throughout his career, Carl has worked in a multitude of businesses, across different sectors from small family-owned companies right through to large publicly listed ones, which enabled him to gain a vast amount of experience within the profession. Carl has also held various non-executive directorships in ‘not for profit’ entities, allowing him to gain additional board level experience.
Away from work, Carl is a father of three young children. He lives a very healthy and active lifestyle, attending the gym six days a week and training with the Kingston Upon Hull Athletics Club twice a week, running various 5K and 10K events, with the aim of running the Manchester Marathon in 2026. On top of this, he also plays guitar in an original rock band and has just recorded an album with them. He can be seen playing gigs in the local area.
